    The Saver

    To describe this screensaver briefly: In contrast to the original CowSaver, where only a dozen cows would forever rain down your screen, you will now be faced with millions of cows invading your screen! There's also some more or less unneccesary settings you can make, like add a wind that will blow on the cows, select the size of the cows and how many cows that are to rain down your screen. Plus you can make the cows fall down in a triangular pattern the first time around. The frigthening intro from the original cowsaver is still in there! Plus you have now got 3 different scenarios of cows falling from the sky, one is the original cowsaver (ufos and a few cows), one is the invasion scenario (lots of cows) and one is the custom scenario (your custom settings). Also, be on the watch for sublime conspiricy messages and images. You have been warned! ;)

    Features

    Here's a nonsensical list of features in the screensaver.

  • Cows! And lots of them!
  • Wind support, add a wind that blows in from time to time causing the herd of cows to follow the winds path, wherever it leads.
  • Speed support, make your cows move slow or fast.
  • Background image support, use your own images as backgrounds in the screensaver (while it is running). Two background images are included with the download.
  • Xanadu cow support, "if you don't know it, perhaps the cow from Xanadu knows it" (TM)
  • Pyramidical herd support, arrange your cows in a pyramid when they fall in the first time.
  • Subliminal (or as Bush would put it, sublimimibal) messages support.
  • Includes a remake of the Original CowSaver relased in 1998.
  • Fun for you, and only you! :)

    Installation

    No installer is included with this download, but to install the screensaver you can follow these instructions:

    A screensaver (which is a file ending with .scr) needs to be placed in your c:\windows\ directory (or wherever you have installed windows). Once the file is there you should be able to open up your Display Properties and select the Screensaver tab and find the screensaver in the list of screensavers.

    Here's a step-by-step guide to install this screensaver:

    1. Requires Win95/98/(~NT)

    2. Place the file "CowSaver II.scr" (included in the downloaded zip file) in your windows folder (i.e c:\windows\)

      Also place the "CowSaver II.hlp" file (included in the downloaded zip file) in your windows directory, this is neccessary if you wish to be able to access the help file from within the screensavers settings dialog.

      Also place the bitmaps ("Cow Collage.bmp" and "Eraserhead.bmp") included with the zip in your windows directory if you wish to be able to use these two neat images as background in the screensaver.

    3. Open up your Display Properties by either:
      • Right click with the mouse somewhere on the desktop and choose properties.
      • Go Start/Settings/Controll_Panel | double-click Display icon

    4. Select the screensaver tab and choose "CowSaver II" from the list

    Accessing the settings for the screensaver

    The screensaver offers a lot of things to customize. To access and change the screensavers settings you open up the "Display Properties" and select the screensaver tab. Next make sure that "CowSaver II" is the selected screensaver and click the settings button. Now the settings dialog for the screensaver should open up. To read more about the different settings, either talk to the cow from Xanadu or click the help button to open up the help file which contains explanations for all the settings.

    Troubleshooting/Tips

    PROBLEM: The scrensaver wont start/doesn't work or when the screensaver starts an error msg appears.
    SOLUTION: Are you sure you have DirectX installed? Download and install it from microsoft.com/directx.

    PROBLEM: When I start the screensaver I get a black screen (I have DirectX installed).
    SOLUTION: Yes, that is indeed a problem, isn't it... If you encounter this problem, please let me know which version of the saver you have and what system you are running.
