Q0 Who may submit a hiscore?
A Anyone may submit as long as you are a member of this sites club (The PIN Club). To become a member fill out the Join Form on the Club page. To become a member you need to have an email (when you fill out the join form a userid will be send to your email, this userid is then used to submit hiscores). See the help page for more info.
Q1 What should the table settings be?
A Very difficult question, please See The Rules for more info. But to answer briefly (eh?). Lately I've started trying to actually layout the lists, so that they allow postings for all the possible table settings (easy/normal/hard/3-balls/5-balls/Tournament/Factory and so on). Though for those lists where no such options are available (please, feel free to send a suggestion for the layout of those lists to me), the following apply:
Play with factory default settings in those tables that offer it. Otherwise try to stay as close to the default settings as possible (some slighter tweaking to settings is not expressively forbidden but please don't change down to easiest possible, you might as well submit a fake hiscore then, but that's forbbiden), when you are in doubt play with the least number of balls (usually 3 balls). Again, send me an email if you have questions and we can try and work out a reasonable layout for that titles hiscore listing.
Oh, and always try to use the latest version available of the title, scores wont be deprecated when a new version comes out, but for fairness sake point out in the hiscore comment which version you used if you know there are different versions of the title (no bigger point pointing this out if you use the latest version, one can always look at the posting date of the score and guess it's version - if one cares).
But in all cases, this setting should apply: challenging enough!
Q2 How will the hiscores be listed?
A Hiscores will be listed ranking from the best hiscore for each table (or score placement) to the lowest score. There is no limit for how many hiscore can be listed for each pinball thought only the 10 best will be shown on the main hiscore page for each table, the remaining hiscore for each table can be viewed by clicking the link "show all hiscores" beneath each table hiscore listing. See the help page for more info.
Q3 Can I submit hiscores for pinballs not listed?
A Yes and No, fill out the missing form and tell me you want me to add a pinball to the hiscore list, once I've added it (might take one or two days) you can submit a hiscore for that pinball as normal.
Q4 Can I submit hiscores for the shareware versions of the pinball?
A You can send in hiscores reached in the shareware version of the pinball, IF the table in the shareware version is FULLY working. With fully working I mean: The table must be as in the full version of the pinball (a.k.a no more balls or similar). Some sharewares that scores are ok to send in for are: Balls of Steel, Space Cadet, Epic Pinball, Extreme Pinball. Send me an email if you wonder about another shareware version (see email last on page).
Q5 Can I submit hiscores for demo versions of the pinball?
A NO (sorry...) Demo versions are sometimes timelimited, have unlimited balls under time pressure or are in some way different from the full version of the pinball. It is thereby natural that I can't add those hiscores to the hiscore lists. If the demo is timelimited (not scorelimited) you can ask me to create a special hiscore list for it though!
Q6 How do you check that the hiscores are true?
A First of all, why would anyone bother to send in a false hiscore. I seriously doubt that anyone addict or fan of the genre would bother to do that. If someone does send in abnormal and weird and high hiscores I will contact that member inquring for a hiscore file so I can check the score (don't be scared by this fact, I'm not an extremely suspicious person, ok I'm an xfiles fan and as such quite paranoid, but not suspicious, nah, just kidding :-)). If someone flames the hiscore list (posts lots of scores of the size 10 points or something similar, posts unbelivable scores like 9999999999999999 etc) that member will be banned, simple enough. This hiscore list is build up on trust.
Q7 Do I need to send in hiscore codes/files?
A No, if I see a need I'll ask for a hiscore code or file.
Q8 Where are the hiscore files?
A
Pinballs usually write their score to a hiscore file located in the directory where you installed the pinball. It is hard to guess it's name but you shouldn't have any bigger problems finding it if you have some kind of knowledge of a computer. If you send me this file I can check the score.
When I receive your hiscore file I simply copy your file over my hiscore file for the pinball in question and load up the pinball. It's a quite good verification but troublesome for me, which is why I ask for a hiscore file only when I see a need.
Q9 I've forgotten my userid/pass!!
A Fear not, you remember your email, right? Ok, good, go to the forgotten realm and you shall find wisdom!
Q9 Rules?
A Yes, there are some rules.
Q11 I submitted an incorrect hiscores, what do I do!!?
A If you log in on your accout page you can remove hiscore posts you have made to this list (in case you posted an incorrect hiscore, misstyped it or something).
Q12 Who keeps things in order on this hiscore list?
A Since of June 2002 Rick Maultra is the official moderator of the hiscore lists. He will try to make sure the hiscore lists are kept valid (removing trash posts etc.) and handle adding new pinballs etc. to the list.
