February 1999 Editorial
Original Publishing Date (y/m/d): 1999-02-22

Hey, look!

Damn, I managed to break my new years promise directly (which was to be in time with the editorials). Seriously speaking the editorials will from now on (unlike last year) appear randomly some day during each month (though mostly they will appear at the beginning of each new month).

I thought I'd try to get something new going on these editorial pages this year. I thought that you faithful readers of this editorial would send me some subjects to debate, I'd be more than happy to have some kind of continuous debate going on here from month to month. For example, has anyone got anything to say about which pinball is the best pinball and why (feel free to use strong words just as long as your arguments are good)? Or has anyone got anything to say about the development of pinball, should their be a law against developing pinballs not in 3D (well, not law, but is 2D dying?)? Anyone want to tell the future of pinball simulations (might be fun now with the development of pinball 2000 which I suppose you can say features "sprites"). These subjects just came to my mind as I was writing this, feel free to think up your own ones, well written contributions will be published! Send something in (email to sam@pcpinball.com)!

Let's see, I should really leave these two titles to the next months editorial so I'll have something to write about there but I've never been much for planning ahead. FOX is going to release a title called "Fox Arcade: Sci-Fi Pinball". The title unfortunately and to my big disappointment does not include a table based on The X-Files, though if there is to be a pinball simulation of xfiles I want it done properly and in a decent perspective (in other words, in 3d), cunning developments, please do one!!! :) FYI the Fox pinball will feature 2d nonscrolling tables.

Also, a recent post to the msgboard on this site (thanks RIX) mentions that Adventuresoft has released a pinball simulation title called "Simon the Sorcerer Pinball". A review of it should hopefully come up sometime next month. Based on what I right now have played of the pinball I belive I can safely write that the pinball it is not exactly a top ranking pinball but a quite good low-budget sort of pinball. The table view is a bit too steep so the perspective takes a while to get used to, the physics stands well above such lousy things as Hyper 3D Pinball but doesn't impress that much, the theme is - ofcourse - based on the simon the sorcerer adventure games.

And what else? Hmm, I can't think of anything to debate more right now. The US release of brusa retail has still not happened. It is still possible to order it trough webstores though, check cyberian outpost or cdaccess.com (check the stores page).

Well, that's that for now!

Laters!
