July 1999 Editorial Original Publishing Date (y/m/d): 1999-07-01 Hoorah! It's not july anymore but to be consistent this IS the July editorial even though it is beeing written in August. I've recently redone some parts of the page, the club page and hiscore page in particular. Now all club members (btw, the club is now called the PIN Club) will be assigned a UserID and a Password (all old members should have received a userid and password by email, if you haven't please use the forgotten password option on the club page to retrive yours), the id and pass can then be used when posting a hiscore or a msg to the msgboard (well, the msgboard is still open but I will soon redo the msgboard to allow only club members to post, I'm tiered of all the spamming to the board). The new club and hiscore scripts are still a little buggy so if you notice something strange feel free to let me know about it! What otherwise happened last month, well I got my hands on a preview copy of SlamTilt Resurrection, 21st Century/Ganymede Technologies upcomming pinball!! The pinball might not be a new timeshock! but I still think it's release might be something to look forward too. The realism of the physics are good/ok but not top notch, the table views offered in STR are 3D and 2D/3D-Scrolling (the 3d view isn't as comfortable as the timeshock! 3d view somehow, the table feld a little smaller somehow). I enjoyed playing around with the tables a little, but they didn't feel very complex rulewise. I got the impressions the tables were aimed a bit more at beginners than advanced players (ofcourse an "advanced player" might enjoy a not so complex table too, just trying to formulate my impression). But I'll leave the closer examination of the pinball until the final version is released (which should occur sometime within the 4th quarter this year). Some pinball titles I have found out about this month are: Battle Pinball '99, Roswell Pinball, Avengers Pinball. The first title is a pinball which allows you to play matches against the computer or another person, the two player game against the computer apparently takes place with two table simuntaneously visible on the screen and you play your table and the computer his table and somehow you compete. The two last titles are PGL (Pinball-Games Ltd) releases, PGL is the company which makes use of the infamous NMS engine, in short the pinballs probably suck very much in terms of physics/realism, the theme might be good but is probably very simply thought/made out, call me a person with predetermined thoughts but I'm quite sure I'm right. Until next month (or until the end of this month)... Happy Flipping! |
